Overview: XIII (AZ, CO, NM, UT, WY) & XIV (FL, GA, NC, SC)

Region XIII (AZ, CO, NM, UT, WY)

The province is composed of the metropolitan, Denver and three suffragan dioceses: Cheyenne (WY), Colorado Springs, and Pueblo.

The ordinaries of the suffragans are, respectively: Bishop Etienne (52), Bishop Sheridan (66), and Bishop Isern (53).

The only auxiliary is in Denver, Bishop Conley (56).

The archdiocese is vacant and will likely be filled this year.

Bishop Sheridan will celebrate 15 years as a bishop in September. He is at an age and length of service that makes him likely to be considered for other roles.

Santa Fe is the metropolitan with four suffragan dioceses: Gallup (NM), Las Cruces (NM), Phoeniz (AZ), and Tucson (AZ).

The ordinaries are: Archbishop Sheehan (72), Bishop Wall (47), Bishop Ramirez (75), Bishop Olmsted (64), and Bishop Kicanas (70), respectively.

There is one auxiliary in Phoenix: Bishop Nevares (57).

Bishop Ramirez reached the normal retirement age last Fall. He is likely to retire and have his replacement named this year.

Bishop Olmsted is at an age and length of service that makes him likely to be considered for other roles.

Region XIV (FL, GA, NC, SC)

This province has Atlanta as its metropolitan with Charleston (SC), Charlotte (NC), Raleigh (NC), and Savannah as its suffragans.

The ordinaries are Archbishop Gregory (64), Bishop Guglielmone (66), Bishop Jugis (54), Bishop Burbidge (54), and Bishop Hartmayer (60), respectively.

Atlanta has the only auxiliary bishop in the province, Bishop Zarama Pasqualetto (53).

Both Archbishop Gregory and Bishop Jugis are at an age and a length of service that makes it more likely that they'll be considered for other roles in the next few years.

Other than those two exceptions, no other changes appear to be likely in the coming year or two.

Miami is the metropolitan and it has six suffragan dioceses: Orlando, Palm Beach, Pensacola-Tallahassee, Saint Augustine, Saint Petersburg, and Venice.

The ordinaries are: Archbishop Wenski (61), Bishop Noonan (60), Bishop Barbarito (61), Vacant, Bishop Estévez (65), Bishop Lynch (70), and Bishop Deware (61), respectively.

The diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee is currently vacant and will likely be filled this year.

Archbish Wenski will celebrate 15 years as a bishop in September.

Bishop Barbarito is at an age and length of service that makes him likely to be considered for other roles.

Let's not forget that Miami is also lacking any help for Archbishop Wenski. With his two auxiliaries (Noonan and Estevez) being named to other posts within the state, Miami is in desperate need of new auxiliary bishops. Some of us thought those would be named late in 2011 but the death of Archbishop Sambi halted any episcopal appointments. With our new Nuncio finally getting familiar with the US and the ad limina visits underway, I'm interested to see who Pope Benedict will name to those positions.
